Job Summary
Directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with DOT, OSHA and other state, local, and industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Delivers programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

•Formulates general safety policies and procedures to be followed by company or unit personnel in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) rules and regulations.
•Implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents and occupational illnesses.
•Inspects company facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, and recommends corrective or preventative measures where indicated, providing documentation, training, and guidance to the various departments as needed.
•Devises, supervises, and coordinates training programs associated with the motor carrier industry which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness, assuring that all aspects of the programs are in compliance including training and recordkeeping.
•Coordinates Haz Com safety training, testing, licensing hazardous waste storage areas, ensuring hazardous waste is manifested and shipped in accordance with regulations, and monitoring hazardous material/ waste and emergency management programs
•Consults with all departments on design and use of equipment, shops, fire prevention and safety program.
•Coordinates collection and analysis of data and reports necessary for meeting internal and state/federal safety requirements.
•Develops new programs as needed to meet new or future regulations related to employee health and safety.
•Participates in the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for the organization’s use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
•Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.
•Assures compliance with all DMV driver-related requirements.
•Coordinates with HR on all workers compensation issues.
•Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
•Minimum of 10 years relevant experience in trucking industry
•Trucking safety and DOT compliance experience
•Extensive knowledge of FMCSR and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards
•Willingness to travel as needed
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Ability to conduct training
•Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
•Strong supervisory and leadership skills
•Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
•Valid Driver’s License
Working Conditions
•Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
•Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
•Ability to travel as required to conduct safety inspections.
